If you have been reading this blog for any length of time, you may have noticed a long absence from blogging about my travels. My life got turned upside down when I got pregnant in April 2010. There pretty much ended most traveling with the exception of a baby moon to yosemite which I have failed to publish. I barely left the house for about 6 months after Lily was born, so not until July 2011 did we venture for an overnight. We chose Julian because it is only an hour from our house and chose a rental because we co-sleep and it would be too difficult to camp. Choose your level of adventure and our choice was a vacation rental.
The drive was as to be expected: she cried the whole time and nodded off when we arrived, only to get a second wind in the new surroundings. The house was nice enough, but had its quirks. We promptly took some afternoon walks on surrounding roads. Naps were challenging.
The next morning we went to William Heise park, which is a lovely city campground with trails and rustic cabins. We completed a short loop and then picnicked under the wedding tree. It was too hot to continue so we went home. We ventured into julian for some pie which we baked for garretts bday.
The next day we drove to the Cuyamaca state park and walked the mine trail which borders the lake. It was shady and she took a good nap. We picnicked again on some benches and she played with toys on top of the quilt. Temps were getting hot so we went back to the cabin. All of this was more driving and outings than ever and I had to my best carseat entertainment. There were no breaks!
So while it was decidly tame, two nights away from home was a lot for us and I was pretty anxious the whole time. I never thought after all my intrepid travels I would be so nervous and worried over the littlest things, but I am. She may be a baby, but she is powerful!
